Raising Dixie

Hi, I'm Dixie's daddy. At least that's what my life has been like since she came into it.

Dixie is the offspring of a Jack Russell Terrier and a Beagle. Can you say

"Alpha Female?!!"

She's just about two years old and until a few months ago was a resident at the local animal shelter with an uncertain future. Early one Sunday morning, Sherri, that's Dixie's new mom, decided she could suffer no more and had to have another furry friend to fill the emptiness left by losing two long-time companions to "Sugar Candy Mountain" in a very short period.

While nothing replaces sweet memories of the dearly departed, Dixie has kept us far too busy to remain too sad over the painful losses of Wrigley and Suzie who went to their well-deserved rests, both having lived long happy lives. There shown in the photo at top "hard at work."

Wrigley was the pick of the litter of newborn Pugs and became quite plump. Suzie was much older and part of the family long before Wrigley and only about a third of Wrigley's size but was the more dominant. We never knew Suzie's breed, but she had the coloring of a Shepherd and was small enough to fit inside a loose sweater. Both she and Wrigley quailified as true couch potatoes.

But that was B.D. (before Dixie).

Talk about going from zero to sixty in two seconds flat! I believe Dixie actually cuts that time at least by half. I exxagerate only slightly when I say that she moves so fast over short distances that she actually becomes a blur.

Dixie has a somewhat long body for the length of her legs. Both Beagles and Jack Russells have short legs. When we first got her she was a little under-weight and was recovering from surgery. Even so, she was as active and rambuncious as ever. Or so I thought. Her activeness and rambunciousness have increased exponentially by the day. Along with the fun and joy she provides all who come within her spell.
